You do not to spine at all but you can do it if you want. Do each piece and then align them and put assemble them. I would go ahead and do the butt section . Re: spining 2 piece rod

Lorenzo,
Don't worry about spining the blank if you don't want to, or can't. Rather, just sight down the blank, and build on the straighest axis. Align the two axis for the upper and lower 1/2 of the blanks and you will be good to go. Generally speaking you will typically find that the straightest axis will "tend" to align with the actual spine of the rod. This is generally true, but won't be true all of the time. Spining a multi-piece blank is tricky. You have to spine each piece separately - mark them. Then assemble the pieces and you will see that your spine has changed because the butt section will affect the tip section. So you have to turn one section a bit and keep trying until you are happy. Like Roger said, build on the straightest axis, you'll save tons of time and your sanity. I'm currently building two Batson SB720-4's. Could you imagine trying to spine a 4-piece 6' blank?!? LOL
