I have just started using CP on guide wraps. When I put finish on the wraps I get bubbles coming out of the tunnels on the side of the guide foot.
I am only using one coat of Chromaseal and get good color retention, do I need the extra coat or two to fill the tunnel with CP? When I put on the CP it floods thru the thread and fills the tunnel, but once it dries it's hollow again. Thanks, Marc Re: CP and Guide Wraps

The CP isn't really filling the tunnels but the surface tension can make it appear that way. One doesn't want to fill the tunnels with CP anyway.
The solution is to fill the tunnels with epoxy using a toothpick or similar tool if you can't do it with your brush or spatula. Raymond Adams Eventually, all things merge, and a river runs through it.. Re: CP and Guide Wraps

Marc,
When I first started building rods, I applied CP, but did not fill the tunnels with it. Too things occurred. First when I applied varnish (the only finish in those days) bubbles would form and rise to the surface. Second, when finish was applied some of it would seep into the tunnels and when it dried, there would be a dark line along the tunnels. When I began to fill the tunnels with CP and then apply CP over the rest of the Wraps, these problems disappeared. I still fill my tunnels with CP and when I apply finish I also work the finish into the tunnels. never have had a problem. Mike Blomme Re: CP and Guide Wraps

When you apply epoxy, coat all the wraps and then go back with a toothpick and place a small drop of finish at the opening of each tunnel. The finish will be drawn into the tunnel and form a shoulder upon which the guide foot will sit, stabilizing the guide itself. This is actually a very important part of the epoxy finishing process.
