I have a question. Being there will be tow layers of thread do i need to put finish on the underwrap before i put on the guide and wrap that on? Or do i wait and put my finish on when the wrap is totaly done? Thanks for your help!! Kevin Gross Many men will spend their whole life wondering if they made a difference. Either way is fine. I have traditionally applied a coat of CP on the underwrap and then overwrapped. Others will apply a thin coat of epoxy and then overwrap once that set firm enough to allow overwrapping. In his article on making kite rods, Capt. Mike Ballard opined that a thin layer of finish on the underwrap and then an overwrap created the most strength and durability possible. If you're building a heavy duty stand-up or offshore trolling rod, that might be important to you.

just remember that you do not need underwraps on all rods - except heavy salt water rods. On lighter rods all it does is add weight.
Good guide prep is the way to go. Where the feet meat the blank they should be a smooth as a baby's - ( well you know ) Bill - willierods.com Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
