I have a question. As i understand it color preserver prohibits the epoxy from soaking into the thread. Doesnt that weaken the bonding and result in a weaker wrap? I got bit by the building bug and am working on 2 fly rods and next 2 halibut rods. I would love to be able to use a color preserver on two of them but not if its going to diminish the wrap strength. Thanks again for all your help!! Kevin Gross Many men will spend their whole life wondering if they made a difference. Marines dont have that problem - Ronald Regan Re: Color preserver and epoxy

The color preserver seals and penetrates the thread to preserve the color. Epoxy doesn't need to soak into anything. The thread hold the guides, the epoxy is there to protect the thread.

Kevin,
I've got a couple of rods that are coming up for 30 years old. They both have been finished with colour preserver and the wraps are still good. You've got nothing to worry about strength or longevity if you use colour preserver. Threadmaster Chromaseal is a good colour preserver and works well on threads like Madeira. Combined with Threadmaster finish I get original thread colour and I'm more than happy with the finish. ESFNEM Col Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
