Can i use Epoxy for putting a tip top on the rod i am buiding? I have lots on hand and epoxy has always worked well for other things. Thanks for your help!

5 minute epoxy. If you use a stronger one you may have a very hard time if you ever need to remove it.

i always use 5 min. its near impossible to get off, but i guess thats the point. I try to use it as sparingly as possible.

When I take one off I put a paper clip attached to the top then a rubber band on that with it to a hook. Then put pressure on the top and a candle to heat it. It pops right off.

I use epoxy for the tip & used Bill's method for removal a couple of times with no problems.

I use Epoxy all the time. The slow curing time allows one to carefully align the tip to the guides. Removing the tip at a later time is no problem, I use a Dremel tool with a cut off wheel and gently cut groooves along the sides of the tip and separating the halves.

I set the blank up on my wrapper rollers and mark where the tip goes. Once all is prepped I mix, get a pin and fill the tube. Put it on using the mark and 20 min later it's done.

But I can take it off with out destroying the top. And reuse it As good as new.

Yes you can use 5 min epoxy in fact sinceit sets up quickly it is easy to use. To remove Devcon 5 min epoxy - it will crystallize when heated and cooled twice. Just heat for a less than a min at less than 350 degrees with your heat gun, then cool for 5 min then heat again. As you heat the second time the tip top wil come right off. You'll see the crystallized result.

I use a tip cement, like hot melt glue, that is designed for tiptops. It holds fine for my climate and conditions, and comes off without need for much temperature. One stick of it lasts for years and years, so cost is not a factor. I have heard of problems with hot melt losing its grip when rods are stored in a closed car, but have never experienced it. I would use epoxy only if I did have problems with the fool-proof hot melt tip top stick. I like not having to take the blank any hotter than absolutely necessary. Keep in mind that the stuff that holds the blank together is a lot like the epoxy you're considering using to hold the tiptop on.
