Hi, has anyone used the cans of "Crackle Spray Paint" on a reel seat?
Any success or horor stories? If you have did you clear coat it after? What did you use for that? Thank you! Re: Crackle Paint

I would. if it takes a urethane Try on a piece of scrap.
If you do the threads the locking nut may not fit unless you sand it down some. easier to just do the body of the seat.. . Bill - willierods.com Re: Crackle Paint

Nick...i have been wanting to try "Crackle Paint" on reel seats myself. Can any of you Gentlemen recommend a "Brand" or Manufacturer if you like. As i have only used Metallics on reel seats. More specifically.... in my time spent in stores purchasing Metallic spray paint, i have only seen "Hammered or Textured " finishes as anything other than Metallics. Thanks Fellas....Wayne Re: Crackle Paint

I would Marbleize it, leaving the thread section bare. Rod Maker had a article about painting grips a few years ago. Send Tom a email about that issue. the article showed how to do it step by step. He even painted the threads. Good Wraps Bob Re: Crackle Paint

I've painted wheels and skid plates on my trucks. I'd definately remove ALL of the existing finish then wipe down THOROUGHLY with acetone before priming and painting - make sure you get down to the BARE metal. For Aluminum, I'd use Self Etching Primer first, as it tends to hold onto the paint better. You'll also want to clear coat as a final application. For me, doing ALL of these steps has resulted in the best results in terms of durability. Rustoleum Self Etching Primer and Duplicolor Automotive Paint are what I've used so far. And before you say "what does this have to do with a fishing rod"?, well, I can assure you my trucks have seen A LOT more wear and tear than my rods (I do a fair amount of 4 wheelin'). Would it be possible to paint finish (similar to thread finish) onto the reel seat after painting and then turning it?
How can I thin it out for easier use? Re: Crackle Paint
