Hey All,
I am looking to buy a couple chucks for my Delta wood lathe.
I would like a 3 or 4 jaw chuck and a drill bit chuck.My lathe is a Delta 46-700.
I dont want to break the bank but I would like a good chuck..
I have done all the searches and it seem the prices go from around 89$ on up for the 3-4 jaw.
Anybody have a favorite..
thanks mikeb

I have a 4 jaw self centering chuck from Grizzly that cost me 40.00 and it rocks. I have not had a problem at all with and I have been using it a lot as of late. I would with a 4 jaw if you are doing wood so you can center bore square stock. I want to say that it opens 3" which suits me fine.

Whatever you get ensure that it is a self center it will save you time and fustraition well worth the few extra bucks!

There are many good ones. I prefer the OneWay Talon. It's a bit more money than you may wish to spend. Hang on a bit and see what others recommend. There are plenty of choices.

Mike,
I don't know if you have had this lathe very long or not.
There are a few comments on some of the blogs about watching out for the drive assemblies on the head stock:

I am guessing that as long as you are careful and don't overload it, it will work very well for you.

The lathe uses a standard mt2 head stock and tail stock so that there are lots of chuck options.

You might check out the chucks at "penn state industries". They have very good products at reasonable prices.

Take care
Roger

Well I ordered a chuck like this
PSI CSC 3000 C Barracuda and a Milwaukee 1/2 inch drill chuck
for the tail stock. The chuck comes with 4 sets of jaws.
.....All this cost more than my lathe cost..
Oh well should be good to go now.
Thanks for the replies!!!

I have a brand new one from harbor freight. 4 jaw. I think it's 3/4' X 8 threading. It wont fit my jet lathe 1" x 8 (probably the same that you have) If it will fit I will mail it to you for whatever shipping costs me.

Let me know

Mike, I think you will be pleased with the PSI chuck. It is a great value and very nice chuck. I have a barracuda and have used it for years without any problems.

Garrett,
I wonder if you mean that you have a chuck with a 3/4X16 thread. If so, I would be interested in the chuck. It will fit my head stock just fine.

Please drop me an e-mail

There are adapters to accommodate fitting different size chuck threads to spindle threads, ver economical and work just fine. Available form same sources as chucks.

Garrett, before you give your chuck away check Penn State or one o the other outfits for an adapter. They make all kinds for different threads and they are not expensive.

Thanks guys. I already have a chuck about the same size that I use. The one I'm talking about was given to me.
