Lynn @ Backlash can make them for you. Do be VERY careful with such a long and thin mandrel ... it will flex at higher speeds. Best to keep it at, or below, a moderate speed AND well secured, IMO.

As Mr. Gamble pointed out, use manrels that are JUST long enough to support your work. If your handle is shorter than the mandrel, slide the mandrel through your lathe chuck so that the end of the handle is touching, or very near the chuck.
This will help to keep the mandrel from flexing. It also helps if you are using the "hardened" mandrels, which don't flex as much as common hardware store stock.. Roger Re: Mandrels

Jim,
I can make the 1/4" mandrels any length you want but Jim Gamble is 100% correct the longer 1/4" mandrel will flex and will could come off the lathe and cause some damage, ask Mike Barkley. Also the longer 1/4" mandrels could flex just from the tail stock presser and will cause your finish product to be out of round. If I can help in any way just drop me a line. lynn@backlashtools.Com [www.backlashtools.com] Re: Mandrels

If the blanks that you'll be turning the handles for are large enough, I'd recommend pre-boring the cork rings out to 3/8" before gluing them up and using a larger dia mandrel.

What kind of a rod lath do you have? I use a tail stock support to hold my mandrels. I use any thing from old graphite, fiberglass to Titanium tubs for manderals. Good Wraps Bob Re: Mandrels
