I have just purchased a stcroix blank and found the guide placement chart to be much different from any standerd chart I've found. Are they gospel? Also I've been researching about guide placing and how to check it but have'nt found a thing about how to adjust them. I'm trying to get past the rooky stage of rod building and would apriciate the advice. Thanks Dennis Re: Guide adjustment

The manufacturers charts are NOT gospel, they can be a good starting point, followed by the "static test" process to complete placements. Re: Guide adjustment

I'm still kind of in the rookie stages of building(under 20 builds under my belt) but I have never used a guide spacing chart for any of those builds...casting rods get rough numbers then are adjusted via static tests...spinning rods get the 27x treatment and then get static tested... Dennis
I also have about 20 or 25 builds to my credit. When I started building my rods (all spinning) I used the "cone of flight" method and also built a few with the mfgr. guide spacing charts. Then I saw the "new guide concept" info on this website and in RodMaker magazine. I gave it a try, and now I'm completely sold on this method of sizing and placing guides! For me it's the only way to go! Read up on the "new guide concept" (the 27x version) and give it a shot. Rog Re: Guide adjustment

Uh.......maybe we should ask if he's building a casting or a spinning rod? Re: Guide adjustment

Tom's first link was for casting rods. Seemed simple enough. I am looking forward to trying it out. John Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
