last minute order for a flipping stick, christmas present so i can't get a lot of answers, she said she would let me decide what her hubby would like.

should i go med heavy or just medium, 7' blank but still pondering which one. 8# to 10# line is what he uses i know that for sure.

flippin and 8# to 10# line don't exactly go together, lol. Better stay with the medium to medium light. A Batson RX8 XSB 843 or 842 (lighter) might work. They are both 7' but are not considered "flippin" sticks. The 843 might be too heavy for 8#.

I agree with Mark. Flippin in and out of heavy cover with 8 to 10# sounds like lots of lost jigs and fish. I use 30 to 65lb braid for flippin, so I would make sure on the application.

Tight lines,

John

To go along with what Mark and John have said,,,,, most of us will use a 5 power blank for Flipping Stick.

What you might do, is issue him a gift certificate instead of actually building the rod at this time. That way, he can come visit you after Christmas and spell out exactly what he'd like.
