I'm am installing a Fuji exposed reel seat on a medium weight rod. Is it ok to ream out the ribbed section a bit to make it fit? Do you guys use an arbor for the section that is not ribbed near the foregrip? Thanks Re: Reaming exposed reel seet

Kevin, I have done this several times without any failures. IMHO it is ok to do it. Re: Reaming exposed reel seet

Always arbor anything that doesn't fit properly, and yes, you can ream to fit.
Use a good quality epoxy like Rod Bond along with scuffing the blank in the reel seat area and she'll be there forever. DR Re: Reaming exposed reel seet

I read and understand the post by Duane about scuffing the rod blank. Ordinarily I would agree with this post, but for the case of an exposed reel seat, one needs to be a bit careful with the rod scuffing, at least in the area of the reel seat where the rod blank will be exposed. One really doesn't want to scuff the finish of the blank so much as to be able to see the scuffing effects on the rod blank, through the exposed section of reel seat. Otherwise, for the other areas of the blank, scuffing makes sense to effect a better glue bond to the reel seat.

Roger is correct.
What I do is place the seat were I want it and mark that area, then scuff only where the seat contacts the blank leaving the open area un-scuffed. Common sense really. DR Re: Reaming exposed reel seet

Thats good advice from Roger, Ive made that error before, its not pretty. I now wrap a piece of tape around that area. Re: Reaming exposed reel seet

Roger and DR made some great points. What I do is if I miss calculate and scuff the open area is I place a few drops of Permagloss on the area that got scoffed, Good as new and the PG fills in the slight imperfections in the reamed out reel seat. If the rod is a flat black , Use 400 wet dry sand paper on it this will remove the gloss Good Wraps Bob Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
