In RM 12-5 there was an article on off-center turning wood, and it mentioned the technique for cork would be in a future issue. Did that ever make it to the magazine? I can't find it if it did.

anybody have any idea how to off center turn a foam grip. Would like to do a "hammer handle" carbon skinned grip. Any ideas. Re: Off-Center Turning

There is a fixture you would need to use that I've been trying to finish up. I'll try to get it in one of the next two issues.
Otherwise, you can take a cork grip, or EVA, block sand opposing sides, then reinstall in the lathe and continue turning. This will give you an oval shaped grip. You'll want the original turning a bit oversized to allow for the subsequent turning. ................... Re: Off-Center Turning

Ok, sand ing was what i was going to try, just wondering if there were any other methods similar to what had been shown in the magazine but would work with the 2 part foam cores. I look forward to seeing your fixture. Re: Off-Center Turning

Turning of center foam grips - What I did was drill out wood blocks the same diameter as my casting tube. (PVC) I allowed the foam to adhere to the wood and inserted a wood dowel AFTER it was cast. The dowel should extend all the way into the wood ends. When originally casting the form I used the standard metal shaft sprayed with release. You can then mark the wood pieces where you want the off center to go and proceed, but take your time and don't be real aggressive.
Hope this helps, Rick Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
