Thread Advice

I am pretty new to custom rod wrapping. I have wrapped some saltwater rods in the past but it was quite some time ago. I am going to build a couple of 7 foot spinning rods on PacBay Rainforest blanks, which are dark green in color. I want to do gold and green wraps for the guides. I bought a couple of spools of those colors at a local shop in NCP. They looked pretty dull in color but the salesman said they would brighten up when the epoxy finish goes on. Is that true? Would I get brighter color wraps with regular nylon thread and using color preserver.
I know this is a very basic question but I appreciate the help.
Thanks.

I have not used NCP, but from what I have heard, after finish, the thread will have a painted look to them.

Regular nylon with CP will have some sparkle. NCP is, as Mike said, more like paint in appearance.

Thanks for the help. It sounds like I'll go with regular nylon and use CP on it for the extra sparkle. Tom, the mailman just came and delivered your Rod Building book. I look forward to reading it. I also plan on being in Wrightsville Beach for February and March and look forward to meeting you at the convention in High Point.
Best,
JK

Because NCP has chalk added to make it less transparent when epoxy is applied, it also "dulls" the color. Thus it is less transparent but not as vibrant.

Jack -
If you want the wraps to "sparkle" - and you aren't overly concerned with weight of the rod you can do an underwrap in military gold then wrap the guides in a medium green without CP. The nylon will become transparent green with the gold metallic thread providing additional "glitz". The only minor drawback that some people have to this method is that the guide foot will show through the thread.

You want sparkle on NCP? Add glitter.
