Spinning blank used as casting blank?

I am rather new to rod building. While looking for blanks I see a lot of spinning blanks I like but I want to build a casting rod. Will spinning rod blanks work just as well when used as a casting rod?

Yes, a blank is a blank. It will never know what type of reel you hang on it.

Rick,
Custom rod builders get lots of calls to make specific rods - made on a specific blank - for a specific purpose. The blank may be fitted with a spinning reel, a casting reel, or something else. That is why they call it custom.
Early on, I found that there were many blanks that turned out to be great specialized blanks for our types of fishing here in the upper midwest that were normally only rigged and sold commercially as casting rods. But for our purposes, many of these blanks made excellent spinning rods.

As Tom pointed out - a blank, is a blank is a blank. It is up to the builder to build it as is dictated by the needs of the final user, whether that happens to be the builder, a client or the receipient of a gift.

Enjoy the work.

Roger

Rick,
Remember that a Casting rod tends to be stiffer than a Spinning. Therefore, a Heavy Spinning is "equal to" a Medium Casting.
