I recently completed a rod for a good friend of mine who fishes redfish tournaments. I usually only use wood grips, but he specified that he would like cork instead do to comfort levels. After a few months of fishing the cork grip that butts up to the real of the reel seat became slightly loose and with twist a bit while fishing or you can move it by hand as well. The rod is a baitcaster with just a regular fuji reelseat. I really need to find a way to fix this problem, I have never had this issue before. Have you guys experienced anything like this, and what would be your solutions? At first thoughts, I was thinking I may try to use a sharp syringe to apply some fluid style epoxy through the grip. Thank you. Re: Loose grip

I've used the syringe technique to fix grips in the past. I've done it on EVA mostly, but it worked with cork the one time I tried. You can also strip the cork and replace it relatively easy. Re: Loose grip

Try to twist the seat till it gets loose enough to get it off. Clean the blank. Drill a small hole in the butt for air release. Then glue with Rod Bond.
If you can get it off you will need one or two arbors near the front with 1/4" tape to center it. If not the syringe way as said will work Bill - willierods.com Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 10/25/2010 10:13AM by bill boettcher. Re: Loose grip

Kevin,
If you can twist it, you can get it off. Twist it all of the way off, get a good coating of slow drying epoxy inside the grip, as well as on the blank. Slip together, wipe off the excess and you will be good to go. Roger Re: Loose grip
