I've read about sage txl blanks on the forum but I did not understand the terminolgy-DBI-ccs etc.I recently purchased a 000TXL blank and am really excited about building a rod .My question is ,is the blank really ultra light compared to other 0 or 1wt. blanks ? I have built a fiberglass Lamiglas 7 wt.,3 pc and I love it.How should the sage compare to the Lamiglas?Any help on this matter would be appreciated.David Hartis

Like a 2x4 compared to a toothpick! Just kidding, but there is a huge difference 000 wt vs a 7wt and glass vs. HM graphite. I recently built a 3wt TXL and love it. It's medium fast, loads easily short and casts well for me beyond 60' (more than you'll ever need on the stream). I'm really not into the ultra ultra light weight rods like a 000wt, but I'm sure you'll love it. Remember though that weight rod has limits when casting larger flies, added weight and casting in the wind, but it should be fun to fish. One piece of advice, you really should try to cast a rod, especially an expensive one, before you build.

Good luck with the build and let us know how the rod turns out and how it fishes. One note: Sage is coming out with a new (improved?) model of the TXL and I'm sure the current stock of older model rods and blanks will be out there on sale.

If you'll go to the CCS info website, and read this [www.common-cents.info]

You can then measure the action, power and speed of your TXL against any other blank you have.

Though a OOO wt rod is a bit light for me. What type of fly line do you use on them. If Zero is Zero how do you get less than Zero. Are we talking fractional weight lines below One Wt. like 3/4 1/2 1/4 wt and calling them o, oo, ooo ?. I love ultra light tackle 2wt fly, 1/8oz spin, but at some point you can do more harm to the fish with very light wt rods... Bob.

I have cast the txl 7'10" 3 and 4 wts and they are sweet (aside from that color). The lightest line wt rod I own is a Dan Craft 6'10" one wt. It casts nicely with flies #18 and under and leaders no more than 9 ft. out to about 35' with no breeze.I use it with a rio pocket water wf 1. It is a blast with little brookies but very limited and specialized in my opinion. I can't imagine any line wt lighter than that having any practicality. After all it has to have some wt to carry a fly and turn over a leader.

Bill Byrd has spent quite a few years fishng with 3 wts and lighter, including your blank weight. If I remember right his site is www.byrdultrafly.com. Quite a bit of info there.

I have built the 000 wt TXL and love the rod. It is a blast on grayling here in Alaska. I actually hooked into a 24-26 inch Laker and the rod held strong until the fly popped out at the boat...
