Pencil marks

Had a small black pencil mark on red nylon thread as a marker spot. I tried to gently use an eraser to remove it and it just spread making the problem worse. Tried alcohol and that didnt work. Any idea''s on how to get it off without ruining the thread color?
Thanks

You my try the sticky side of tape, or try lightly blowing across it with a can ofcompressed air.

Second thought, The tape may not be a good idea. It may leave a residue that will cause the epoxy to run amuck.

Vern,
Pencil lead is graphite, a form of carbon. There is no solvent that would dissolve the graphite that would not play havoc with the thread and the coating on your blank. I believe the erasing process broke the graphite into even smaller pieces which are now embedded in the small holes and crevices of the thread. The eraser itself also rubs on the thread and some particles from the eraser may also be in the pores of the thread. If you have placed a mark on every guide, you may need to do a complete rewrap or live with the mark. Perhaps others more knowledgeable than myself can suggest a solution to your problem. Good luck.

Vern,

Sounds like a re-wrap to me. Wish I had better advice.

Vern,
Very simple. Cut the wrap off of the guide and rewrap with no pencil mark on the thread.

Take care
Roger

Then do not touch the thread with a pencil
