I tried the rod on the dowel and poke a hole throught the 4" by 3" foam part of a foam brush, it worked on one rod but when I got to the other and tried the same thing, the Lumiseal would not stick, so i tried lightly scuff with a scotch pad, and to no avail, would someone give me any ideas or solve this problem for me, PLEASE! Yep, then on the 3rd coat it finally got some on the rod, I'm thinking maybe I should of used a smaller square of an piece of foam, I really soak the foam, I think I used more then I should of to make sure it stuck, but after three try's I think it's as good as it will get, not as smooth as the factory ones I have, but I'm almost out of Lumiseal, any suggestions on what I should do next, should I just wait and start the building, like the cork and the reel seat, the micros, then polish it? I know I shouldn't expect as good as the factories, at least there's a shine to it. Re: rod on dowel and foam brush

I have eliminated my finish problems from such contaminates that cause fish eyes, finish not sticking to blank and such by using a automotive prep sol. It's used to wipe down the area to be painted before any sanding is done which keeps from sanding silicones (from waxes) into the finish. It has really helped when doing repairs as many of the rods have had wax and polishes on them. Alot of the bass guys will wipe there rods down with the same rags they used on there boat using some kind of wax or even furniture polish. Sounds like you need to clean the blank. I will try that its has to be cause I did that in the garage, so i really don't know what got on it, but i will try that, clean the rod , I guess with denatured alcohol, or Isophyl alcohol, then take it and try it again, hopefully it will stick, almost out of lumiseal, got a come PG left from laat time, might try that, if not enough of LS. Thank You. Re: rod on dowel and foam brush

As Mike has indicated a good cleaner really helps to take care of the problems.
Alchol, as you indicated will take care of some of the issues. But to do a really good job, use something like prep sol, as Mike indicated, or use Xylene or Acetone. These solvents do a great job of removing any type of contaminant that keeps another finish from sticking. p.s. If you use one of the quick evaporating solvents that are pretty toxic, do the cleaning outside, or with a respirator on. Take care Roger Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
