Did Diamondite get taken off the market? I am trying to find some to finish some wooden rod handles.
If it is off the market what is a good alternative.

I'd rather be catching!

I don't know for sure, but I think Tim closed his operation a couple years ago. If I'm wrong I'm sure someone will correct me.

Epoxy isn't really the best thing to use as a wood handle coating. Try Tru-Oil or PermaGloss or similar type urethanes.

I've worked lately with both PermaGloss and Lumaseal and have been getting really outstanding results on wood. Did you read the recent article in RodMaker on how to do this easily?

Work in a WELL ventilated area. Wear a ventilator. Work quickly. IF that doesn't sound appealing, use a marine polyurethane. Petri makes a wipe-on finish that works very well.

Jim,

A couple of years ago I had the chance to talk with you at ICRBE and you put me onto Diamondite.. I really liked it for doing inlays.. what are you using now? I've currently got Threadmaster, and Flex Coat at the house. What would you recommend for butt caps.. i have been inlaying Chiefs anchors lately (they just made a bunch of new chiefs and they have seen what I have done in the past and are very excited about it)

thanks,
Tom

Casting resin ... go to the hobby stores.

When released, Diamondite worked just fine. At some point, something awful happened to the formulation. Swifty couldn't seem to get a grip on the issue and the end result was a vanishing act that David Copperfield would be proud of. It is too bad, the original formula had some strong merits.

Thomas,

I do butt inlays on all my rods except Trolling rods (buttons, coins, etc,) and have always used Threadmaster with excellent results. Casting resins would be very good (I THINK that most finishes are basically casting resins!)

If I don't want to, I don't have to and nobody can make me (except my wife) cuz I'm RETIRED!!
