How to remove Perma gloss

How do you take off Perma gloss as I need to remove a few eye’s from a rod yet from my experience Perma gloss is not the easiest thing to get off a blank as I need a clean blank not a mess half left on the blank as Perma gloss does not peel off to well.

Do you have a jackhammer?? There is a reason that it is called PermaGloss and not TempaGloss. That stuff is TOUGH and then some. IMO, it is best to throw it away and start over ... and I am not kidding. IF you really want it off, be persistent and work slowly. It will be a challenge, but it might eventually relinquish its hold. You will have to rework the affected areas or wrap completely over them - scars will be evident.

A couple of years ago I removed snake guides that had been coated with Permagloss, then Epoxy. Removing the finish was difficult. I ended up using a dull single edge razor, scraping at a 90 degree angle. The paint came off with the Permagloss but I was able to avoid damaging the graphite. Fortunately, I was able to mount same sized snakes and extended my wraps a bit to cover up the areas lacking paint.

I would call Trondak U-40 and find out how to remove it. Ralph always talked about how easy it went on and how durable it was. He never talked about removing it
