When I use fixative is when I use decals or on signatures. For me it prevents the decal from lifting or the lettering from smearing when I apply my finishes Good Wraps Bob Re: Fixative

He asked if the fixatif offered a UV coating for his decals so I will assume he knows what it's for. Clinton I take it that you received your decal media. Please don't hesitate to call or email if you have any questions working with it. Lance Re: Fixative

My understanding of UV additives is that they offer UV protection ONLY for the product in question ... not the substrate. Unless the decal was created with UV resistant inks, you are going to have fading to some degree - could be more, could be less. Re: Fixative

I've never used any type of fixatif or even color preserver for that matter on any of the decals I made using the media that we offer. We introduced the media at the ICRBE show in 2009 and I have some full color decals printed on the white vinyl media on some of my rods that have yet to show any signs of fading even after a year and a half later.
I've even applied finish as soon as 15 minutes after printing them without any reaction what so ever. Lance Re: Fixative

I've been following these threads that discuss the UV Krylon fixative and CP to resist fading. I am using Swamplands decal media and have not experienced any fading after a year. Before that I used clear Testors waterslide paper over a painted surface with no fading. Doesn't most of the finishes claim to be UV protective so why bother with UV protective fixative? I am using a can of Krylon Acrylic Gloss clear that makes no claims about UV protection. I think it has more to do with the quality of ink from the printer than anything. I use a HP7160. Re: Fixative

Do a search on Hewlet Packard Inkjet uV resistance on Google. Resistance is a function of color - use the choices prudently and decal media wisely and you will be satisfied. Think about this the media is uV resistant more than the finish - use reverse imaging and black backgrounds. Never used any fixative on top of any decal printed on the media.
