Hi, I recently found an old lamiglas rod at a yard sale. It's very similar to a Harnell but I think it's a Lamiglas. No markings on it and I stripped it down and want to re-build it. The old finish seems a little dull and varies in color as some areas are more faded than others. I'd like to bring back and even out the lustre as much as possible. Is there a process to this through some light sanding or a chemical finish I can apply and then what could be applied to give it some lustre?

If it is the natural grey graphite color - litht pressuer wet sand sand with 800 auto grit stick and spin out with brown craft paper - high speed turning to bring out lustre.

Sorry I did not mention the color or materials. It's a reddish brown color fiberglass

PermaGloss will make it look glossy.

You might want to try some paste style car wax. Most car waxes have mild abrasives in them and chemicals that will soften the finish and allow it to be polished. One caution here, don't use it till the rod has been wrapped and your final finish coat of thread epoxy has dried. I would try a small section of the rod with the wax and see if it does restore the luster, then clean the area very well. If any of the wax is still on the rod when you do your wraps and finish the wax will affect the epoxy curing and will also give to you those nasty fish eye's.
I have used wax on a bunch of old rods with real good results to "clean them up" for a customer when I get one in for a repair. If that doesn't get the luster back for you, then I would go the Permagloss route.

Yes, exactly. Just give the test section a good cleaning before you glue on a new reel seat and grip.
