Deternining Guide Number

IN V10/#4 of the Rodmaker magazine, there is a reference to an earlier article about determining the number of guides. Is this article available anywhere, as I would like to readit. This is in the context of an article on the new guide concept. Thanks in advance.

You can start with a spacing chart most sponsors have them, for the rod you have then static test. and test cast.

Old rule of thumb. for every foot of rod add a guide 8' rod = 9 guides. Me a use a stree Calulator to determin how many guides and where the should be placed to be the most efficient. Befor wrapping I also test cast and make the final adjustments

My interest is just to read the article to see what it says and to see whether I can learn anything new. I have a pretty good idea of how to space quides for casting rods, pretty much along the lines you suggest...although I do not use a spacing chart, but I do do static testing. But again, thanks for your post. Clinton

get Tom K's book on rod building Sounds like you need it

Simple. one guide per foot plus tip top Just to start. Then static test . Adjust .

It is not rocket science

Bill did I not kind of state that? one guide per foot plus one, except when I say one extra, I mean an extra guide. I did not mean the tip top. I meant another guide. But that is just for starters what one has to also consider is how fast the rod is or how much power is in the back side or if the action is slow. All so no one blank acts the same under the same criteria, even if it is the same model and series

If you do the static test - Correctly - this will show you how your line follows the blank. Add or take guides away . The less is better - to a point. One guide per foot plus one is - only a starting point.

Nothing is written in stone.

keep the high number - test cast - take one away - test cast Which works better . it takes time and is a pain in the ass but should be done

So why are you asking ??? If you know what to do.

Trust your feelings Grasshopper - The force is with you
