Okay, so taking nine kids under the age of eight fishing last week was a blast, and the bluegill co-operated nicely. #8 Circle hooks and frozen corn. No one had to wait more than a minute for their bobber to take off.
However, one of the first-timers cranked the rod (which I just finished last winter) all the way around after the line got looped under the bottom of the reel. It's one of the black and orange UL glass ice fishing blanks from Janns, Mudhole sells something similar. It was working beautifully, btw. Six-inch gills off a small dock in clear water...whee! I was amazed it only broke off the last inch of tip, because it was ALL the way around. The tip-top was up against the reel face. So here's my question...how do I clean up the tip, it's shredded. I'd like to put a new top on, as it should still be plenty limber, but can I just snip the shreds up, do I need to melt them somehow? Thanks again, in advance. Just snip them, do NOT try to melt them. Best wishes, Ron Schneider Schneider's Rod Shop Mountain Home, Arkansas [www.schneidersrods.com] mtnron40@yahoo.com 870-424-3381 Re: Fiberglass Ice Rod Tip Repair....Help

Scott,
Sometimes if you snip the tip - so to speak - you may leave a bit of a fracture further down the blank. If you have an abrasive cut off wheel on a dremel or other tool, it works very well to slice off the tips with an abrasive wheel. Take care Roger Re: Fiberglass Ice Rod Tip Repair....Help
