I have a basic flaw in my personality--i dont work well in clutter. So my shop is almost always a sterile environment. I used to wonder how people could accomplish anything with a messed up work area whether it be a desk, mechanics bay or whatever. Then I realized quite awhile back that everyone is wired differently and clutter actually helps some people. The stark, bright white walls and my bench with no tools or supplies left out might drive some people just as crazy as a cluttered up space would make me. A freind of mine owns a fly shop and his bench is a 4" thick mass of thread, saddle hackles, hair stackers, bobbins, scissors poly, hares masks, pheasant rumps etc... I cant tie a fly in there but he cranks 'em right out. Heck, I applaud him and everyone else who feels comfortable with their "mess". I truly wish I could function that way. Suique Suum! My side of the shop is "neat" - about 3 minutes BEFORE I start any project. Two minutes into it - fageddaboudit . From handle glue-up to the last epoxy coating it's a disaster. The other (Lana's) area of the shop a person could eat off the surfaces. My only excuse is that she doesn't do any of the "dirty work" (grinding, sanding, shaping, gluing). That's one reason that I try to get all the messy stuff done while she's not in the shop and then get the shop vac out to tidy up. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
