So...... I just got my 1st issue of Rod Maker. Volume 13 issue 3. Glad I subscribed to the mag!! Good stuff! The write up on Williams Custom Rods really made me jealous. I have a 22' x 25' garage with a 15' flats boat in it, a ghetto cork lathe and 2 rod lathes (all finish epoxy is done on the kitchen counter top... the wife LOVES that). I think I made the best out of what I have..... It would be cool to see pictures of your guy's messy, tiny shops. I'll try to take a few pictures of what I have going on tonight and post them soon. I build, at the VERY most, 4 rods a month. My work area is messy......... but ....... I always know where everything is! LOL!
Lets see some pictures!!!!!!! Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 07/21/2010 04:02PM by Garrett Adams. Re: Is your shop organised? or clean??

Hmmmm, lets see.
I have a 6'X8' shop area where I turn my handles and do other work that is messy or dusty (it's just inside the front entrance to my place (no basements or garage here)). On my coffee table in the living room I tape on guides, glue up handles and grind guides. LOL In my bedroom I have a 6' desk where I wrap and finish. you think yours is bad, try moving and having to wait to set up your shop. i have things piled in the basement, dining, room, bedrooms, garage, etc. the only good thing is when i moved i found things i didn't even know i had. Re: Is your shop organised? or clean??

organized?! Clean?! Picture the aftermath of a herd of bulls in a phone booth sized china shop!
Best part is quadruple ordering components! My creativity far outweighs any intolerence of clutter! I'm suprised "Hoarders" producers haven't come knocking! Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 07/21/2010 08:46PM by kevin merritt. Re: Is your shop organised? or clean??

My shop is organized, but not the cleanest. I build alot of custom lures (sawdust!) and it's such a pain in the butt to switch back and forth. I only have one small 6ft workbench for rodbuilding and lure building- you should have seen me building my 8 1/2ft muskie stick! I'm moving into a 12x20 shop in the fall and I can't wait!!!!!

My shop took three pics to see it all, but only because I couldn't get far enough back to make it fit. I am in half of the un-finished laundry room in the basement of a condo. I don't have a "clean room" yet, but I am highly paranoid about dust and even have been known to turn off the breaker for the clothes dryer to keep my wife or daughter from turning it on while epoxy is curing! It is pretty small, but it gets the job done and the workbench is 9' long with an additional 3' to the wall. It's pretty well organized, but far from clean, especially at the moment. The best thing is I have a full-size "beverage fridge" right next to my bench!

I'm remodeling mine next week. One thing lead to another and the whole basement got a redo. the shop is last on the list. the wife is calling it the man cave. New Pergo flooring goes in on Wednesday. Looking for a small tv this weekend. i should probably get a lock on that door! Re: Is your shop organised? or clean??

Mine is so bad that when I move this fall I want to just take a big shop-vac and suck up all the loose stuff, then pack the rest.........lol I will be moving to a bigger shop. It will be a 10'x12 room inside of a heated 620sf workshop. I will do all the wrapping & finishing in there, and all the messy stuff out in the main shop area. If thats not enough there will be a 720 sf garage attached, then I am told there is a house attached to that too.
The best part is that there is a bathroom in the shop as well, I hgave been considering a bunk in the shop as well. Have pizza delivered once a day and I am good..................lol Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
