Hi all,
Just a tiger wrap question on colour scheme.s Firstly, I am looking at doing a tiger wrap to match the colour of my guides. The guide under wraps are with Gudebrod "A" Yellow with a Royal Blue "A" overbind . My aim is to get the tiger effect to look similar in colour. to the guides with blue being the prodominent colour of course. Should I do the base colour for the Yellow and Black and then the Royal blue as upper layer and of course the Black as the sacraficial.? I usually do white and black as the base colour so I am a bit apprehensive and using yellow. Anyone used yellow and black as the base colour and how did the your wrap come out? Im still experimenting so any help is appreciate. Thanks Bill Re: black and yellow base for tiger wrap?

I used canary yellow with black and it came out just the tiniest bit more subtle. Still looks and works good. The yellow will take on more of a gold color when combined with the black. Re: black and yellow base for tiger wrap?

Thanks Matt,
You're right. It does take on a golden colour. Tried a small section in the back and yellow and it definately look more gold. I was hoping for more of a yellow colour. I dont suppose you can send me a pick of the one you did which has the yellow and black under wrap by any chance. Re: black and yellow base for tiger wrap?

What you propose will be just what you want. It will give you a mostly blue tiger effect with slight yellow undertones.
The color of the sacrificial thread doesn't make any difference. Whatever is easy for you to see while wrapping it will be fine. ............ Re: black and yellow base for tiger wrap?

I'd use the blue on the bottom instead of the black. Then the blue again on the top. Re: black and yellow base for tiger wrap?

Using color preserver on the top color made a world of difference in how my tiger wraps turned out-much more vivid than ever before. Re: black and yellow base for tiger wrap?

I am tiger wrapping not only the butt section, but under all of the guides as well. I'll post soon with pics. Re: black and yellow base for tiger wrap?

Thank you all
I'll definately use CP on the threads as suggested. I might try Bill Burkett's suggestion on a another rod using the blue instead of black on the botton layer. Re: black and yellow base for tiger wrap?

Bill, As a follow-up on the blue thread for the bottom. I've found that using NCP thread for the bottom layer eliminates the need for color preserver without any ill effects to the wrap. And for the top layer I've used regular nylon thread both with and without CP. I'd suggest doing a few short test wraps using the combinations you're considering and see what combo fits your needs best.
If you look in my gallery at the rod labeled "60's flashback" you might get some ideas. It is an all NCP tiger, with blue, yellow and red as the base wrap and purple on the top. There are tigers on the guides in blue/yellow also (blue/yellow on the bottom and blue on top - as you're looking for). Re: black and yellow base for tiger wrap?

Bill, You will be amazed at all the tips and tricks on Tiger Wraps you will find in the sidebar articles within the original articles detailing this wrap. They appeared in Rodmaker but are now online on this forum's library section. If you check Bill Colby's sidebar on tips and tricks you will find all the info you could ever imagine on what to expect if you use nylon versus NCP, or CP or no CP, or color shades from colors used top or bottom. There is so much information on all these little things right there in the articles that I am amazed that more builders have not taken the time to read them all. It shortens your personal learning curve on this wrap by light years. Re: black and yellow base for tiger wrap?
