What does "graphite composite" really mean?

I realize there are resins, etc., in addition to the graphite sheet when making a blank but the term "graphite composite" in advertising to me seems to resemble the ingredients of a hot dog whereas a top of the line premium blank would be considered top sirloin. Or is my assumpsion unfounded? Thanks.

Graphite composite can mean various modulus of graphites, or a graphite/fiberglass combination. Nothing "hot dog" about it; it is all about combining the proper materials in the proper ways to make a blank that wouldn't be available as a straight "sirloin" blank. I use composites a lot, nothing second class about them!

Tim, composite means the combination of 2 or more components, no matter what the components are. A cake is a composite of all of its ingredients. You can't have just a graphite rod without it being a composite. It needs resin to bind the graphite together at a minimun. Now you have 2 components, hence a composite.

Not all companies use the term in technically correct fashion. A composite is a material made from more than one material, all fundamentally different and yet which retain their individual identity in the finished product.

Most of the time when you see a rod or blank company use the term "composite" they are talking about a product made from more than one type or modulus of carbon fiber.

It's a term loosely used, but sounds good for marketing. Few realy understand what it means, but a mfgr can do a slight twist of materials, and ypu have a conposite.
It sells.
