Epoxy ramp finish

I have always used an electric dryer after applying the epoxy and have had descent results. I am thinking about hand rotating the rod this time, but I made an epoxy ramp on this rod instead of a winding check. My thinking is how is the epoxy going to self level on a ramp? Should I level the ramp and apply the finish to it separately? Re: Epoxy ramp finish

When I do my ramps I have the rod tip up for the ramp. Do it separately - maybe last.. I use the turner. Bill - willierods.com Re: Epoxy ramp finish

Lots of folks like to elevate their rods at about 45 degrees when drying epoxy ramps. This essentially makes the surface of the ramp level as the epoxy cures.

I've done a few but I never elevate the rod, I just leave it level. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 07/20/2010 11:07AM by Scott Armstrong. Re: Epoxy ramp finish

I just don't see the reason for elevating it. Say your finishing a 45 degree ramp on the turner with the rod elevated at 45 degrees. The top surface is now horizonal and the bottom surface is vertical pulling the finish towards your threads on your reel seat. Now with the same rod set level on the turner the top surface is 45 degrees down pulling the finish towards the tip and the bottom surface is pulling finish back towards the threads thus 'leveling' the thickness of the finish as it rotates. I haven't done many but never had an issue during the finish step. Re: Epoxy ramp finish
