CLR is a very good product and quickly removes light corrosion and salt deposits. Just don't expect it to work miracles.

The best way is to prevent it by rinsing your rods in fresh water after fishing. Re: Getting corrosion off of spinning guides.

Bill,
The best way to get corrosion off of your salt water guides, is to cut the guides off of the rod and tie on new ones. Then , be sure to always rinse the rod each day or several times during the day to prevent future such occurance. Even if you do get the corrosion off of the guide, unless the guide is replated - it will only corrode again. Roger Re: Getting corrosion off of spinning guides.

Bill, Tom's idea is good. Also, try Mag wheel cleaner with a scrub brush or a Scotch Brite pad.If that don't work, take Rogers advice. Re: Getting corrosion off of spinning guides.

I just got back from 7 day offshore trip and while cleaning my rods I noticed some discoloration (which may or maynot have been corrosion) on one perfection guide.
Ran a nylon stocking and a Q tip around the guide and there were no snags. Was undecided whether to replace it as the guide is triple wrapped with rod finish on each layer. I wetted a Q tip and dipped it in rubbing compound and gently rubbed the OD of the ring as a test and it removed the discoloration. Gently rubbed the ID of the ring with one or two "strokes" and the discoloration disappeared and "performed" the snag test again with no resulting snags. Viewed the ring ID with high powered magnification and it was smooth. If the discoloration appears again after an 11 day trip then I will consider replacing at least the one guide and maybe upgrading all of them during the winter. Bob McKamey at MH was very helpful in evaluating options. Bill Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
