Epoxy and two footed guides

What is the best practice when epoxing a two footed guide wrap? Do you let the epoxy go between the feet onto the rod or not?

I always wrap a different colored thread in that area. It then appears to be a underwrap, but is really a "false underwrap". You ad a little bit of extra color to your wrap and you do not have to worry about that extra finish between the double foot guide.

I treat it as two separate guidewraps and do not epoxy between them. It all boils down to personal preference.

Assuming that you do not use an underwrap, then no epoxy on the blank between the two feet. But you do need to fill the tunnel under the guide feet so that no water gets underneat the guide. I am not sure if the two posters above answered your question. I am not even sure if I did... LOL

I also shave down the handle end of one of the little disposable yellow brushes. Iy makes a great little pick to dip in the epoxy. Same as the toothpick idea. Then wipe it off with alcohol, ready to use again.

I just completed a baitcasting rod with 10mm and 8mm guides towards the tip. I found it difficult the get epoxy underneath the feet on such small guides without putting epoxy throughout that space. So I epoxied all the guides that way to be consistent and to be sure to seal up that space as well as possible. But then I got to thinking that for some reason I had not thought of, this might not have been such a good idea.

I do each leg as an individual wrap as well with no epoxy between the feet. I fill the tunnel with a drop of epoxy using a fly tying bodkin. I think it's a personal taste but in my opinion it looks more professional without epoxy between the feet. Plus it cuts down on the weight a smidgeon. The underwrap idea is a different theory and certainly needs to be epoxied.

Clinton if you already did it on that rod I wouldn't worry about it. It won't hurt anything and the extra weight from that small amount of epoxy is minimal I should think, unless you gobbed it on there :)
I think it is more of a cosmetic issue than anything else, and you probably got the tunnels sealed by doing so.
