I just put flex coat on my threads for a tiger wrap and the color changed from orange to a dark orange/brown. Is this normal? Did I put too much on? It is Pac Bay stay true.......
Thanks Jeremy Re: Thread color change

PacBay stay true is NCP so that shouldn't happen. Which layer of the tiger are you doing? What brand & type of epoxy? Are you SURE that layer of thread is Stay True? Wrap a little of that thread solid on a scrap peice and see if the same thing happens. Are you sure it's not the effect of the tiger wrap making it look that way? Re: Thread color change

It is the first layer of the tiger wrap. The epoxy is flex coat lite. Yes it is Stay true # 521 orange. It could be from moving the thread for the tiger wrap it is a gloss black blank. I will try it on a scrap piece and see what it does without the gaps. It is still looking good it will just be a little darker than I had planned.
Thanks for the help Jeremy Re: Thread color change

Even though it is NCP thread - put CP on it You might have been better of using regular nylon and CP. Bill - willierods.com Re: Thread color change

You shouldn't have any gaps between the strands of thread. If you do, that's where the darker color is coming from - you're actually seeing the blank through those gaps which creates the effect of the thread having turned darker.

Jeremy -- Just curious, where did you come up with the number 521? The reason that I ask, is the #521 represents a 100 yd spool size for Gudebrod. Bob McKamey bobm@mudhole.com Re: Thread color change

Could be the dark color of the blank making the thread look darker after epoxy is applied? Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
