reel seat hood removal

Is it possible to take a hood off the lock nut on a reel seat? I've never tried but it seems possible to me; I've got a painted reel seat that I want to change from silver to gold hood. Thanks!

Yes, but it will have to be the same brand and maybe model to replace it.
Might be easier to buy another seat with the hood color you want and just switch the whole locknut/hood.

We covered this in RodMaker awhile back. It can be done and replaced with another color from the same model, but the process, while simple, must be quick and definite otherwise you risk cracking the rim that holds the hood.

I'll have to take some time and go back and look. It was all about modifying the standard nylon/graphite type seats by mixing and matching parts. I think it was one of the Volume 5 issues.

Tom,

do you stil have these available for purchase?? I think I could figure it out but if someone has already done the leg work and it keeps me from trashing seats I will definately spend the $$ to save me the heartache.

I'll have to look. I'm sort of tied up today and tomorrow but if you'll email me I'll file it and come back to it next week. I plan to clean out some older back issues so I'll try to remember to look for it.
