I have purchased an xps weighted butt cap for a fishing rod that I have built. The problem is that I can not seem to find the insert that the cap fits to. Does anyone have an ideas how to get one. Bass Pro doesn't sell this part so the cap is useless to me right now. I tried to make one myself out of acrylic that you mix but it would not hold up and split in half. It is a special thread I think someone told me once. You would have to get an old BPS rod to get one out of it. Re: Bass Pro XPS weighted butt cap

If you want to keep it try going to a Home Depot or Lowe's and in there nuts and bolts isle there are special bolts that will hold the weights also special nuts that can be epoxied into the handle. Bring it with you.
Or Mud Hole has the Fuji one, a cap and weights [www.mudhole.com] batson has a nice screw on type, merick Tackle has a Fuji also Should have read Bass Pros description of it, it says only works on certain rods Bill - willierods.com Re: Bass Pro XPS weighted butt cap

Does this thread into the end-cap on the end of the blank, or do the threads protrude from the blank?
If part of the issue is that the threads are "special" as Mike stated, you can re-tap them to a standard thread that is similar in size. (As in, a metric thread can be re-tapped to a standard thread, etc.) Dan Re: Bass Pro XPS weighted butt cap

The one from BPS has a female threaded piece in the rod and a male piece on the cap end. Re: Bass Pro XPS weighted butt cap

I posted the same question a couple months ago...I ended up cutting the butt end off a bps rod to make it work...lesson learned do not build a weighted butt for anybody...... Re: Bass Pro XPS weighted butt cap

OK, here is one solution -
Take the BassPro but cap apart and cut off the threaded rod right at the base. A Dremel tool works good. Buy 1/4" Teenuts and T-bolts. You can get them from Woodcraft. Epoxy the T-Bolt in the Bass Pro But cap and epoxy the Teenuts into the end of your rod blank. You can use the same weights from the BassPro but cap. Now you have the opportunity to balance your rod and reel by adding weight to the but. Mikew Re: Bass Pro XPS weighted butt cap

Here is another option. You could sleve over the thread with tubing and insert it into the rod that way via a bushing made out of an arbor.
