All,
Following questions all in context of building 9' to 10' plugging rods for throwing 1 to 4 oz. Guides -- I'm a fan of AmTak titanium guides and am wondering about the various double-foot size 6's available. Is there a difference in ring height between the NIV-6 and NIC-6 guides, and which, if either, would anyone recommend for running guides? With the lines and terminal tackle I use, size 6 is no problem. Also, wondering about the NIRLC-6 (ring lock) guides. They seem lower and not as substantial as the regular NIC's. True? Reel seats -- Have folks used any of the Fuji NPS seats for heavier use. It seems as though they aren't quite as heavy-duty as the "conventional" Fuji spinning rod seats. Blanks -- Would any of the heavier MudHole MHX 2-piece 9' fly blanks be suitable for plugging? Are these blanks new enough that no one's built on them yet? I remember seeing somewhere in the past on this board some guidelines for converting fly rod line weight to spinning rod line weight/lure weight, but I did a search and couldn't seem to find the reference. Any help re: any of these questions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. Bilgee Re: guide, reel seat, and blank questions

The NPS will work just fine. It's more than tough enough.

I use them on 50# tarpon rods and have nothing but great results. They actually hold the foot of the reel in a MUCH better fashion than a traditional seat. Re: guide, reel seat, and blank questions

True? > > Hi Bill, The V frame is higher than the C frame I can get you the measurements if you'd like. We will have all the measurements of the Ring Lock guides up shortly. What kind of rod are you building spinning or casting? I will assume spinning. The Ring Lock frames almost eliminate ring loss. This design works especially well in the larger titanium guide frames which are inherently soft. The older frames don't do the job like the new RL versions. They are a better choice and a vast design improvement. I would hold out for the arrival of our new Typhoon series guides the NIRLS-8 - 40 which will replace the V-Frame with the new Ring Lock S frame new guide concept style spinning system. These will arrive around the end of the month. If you can't wait that long would you consider the Virtus Lites NIRLVL's which are now available in sizes 30 & 40?
