Hello All,

I am looking to coat a huge rod that is going to be seeing alot of defenitive heat from the sun for countless hours on end when fishing and just wanted to see what you inputs would be to the following question.

What would you say is the best Rod finish with the best UV resistance that can withstand yellowing and cracking the longest?

Thank You All,
Tony

Tony, from what I've read on this board, Permagloss will be the best finish for the long haul if durability is your main concerrn. You will get a different look than with epoxy finishes but it will withstand about all you could possibly do to it. Mudhole has a new finish which they claim will not yellow as much as other finishes. I just ordered some, but haven't received it, much less tested it. They call it Prokote, and it is a medium build finish.

PermaGloss will never yellow. Never. It's hard as nails and yet light and thin. If you apply it to your rod blank by wiping on just 1 or 2 coats, it'll be perfectly slick and smooth.

Do a search under "PermaGloss" to find more information on using it to coat rod blanks.

ProKote finish was recently tested by an independent laboratory and against several other rod finishes and was found to be the best at non-yellowing and retaining surface reflectivity (glossy surface).

I think he's referring to a blank coating, not thread wrap finish.

LumiSeal is another good blank coating similar to Permagloss, a little more forgiving

Tony, I would invite you to try our LumiSeal, as Bill mentioned it is a little more forgiving then Permagloss and a little thicker so it can be done with less coats, fast dring, and an extremly hard coating for your rod.
Thank you for your consideration,
Scott Parsons

When tinting the permagloss with pigment, the pigment like settles on the bottom, you said to pour it out quickly and the color will be on top , now when coating a rod blank, with a cheese cloth, do you put the tinted permagloss on the cheese cloth or on the rod first, or how about like a nayural hair brush will that work also? Thank You!
