Madera thread trick

Because of the silicon content in Madera thread there has always been fish eye issues and though I've found a thread sealer that works most of the time, There always seems to be, on occasion when a single little lone fish eye will @#$%& me off and I'll have to address it and recoat a guide when otherwise the rod would be done.
They dont really make an additive and even if they did with the small volume we deal with in our mixtures it would be iffy at best using one without over doing it.
Additives such as smoothie are basically just silicon in a vehicle to add to paint so that any silicon type contaminant wont react badly. So heres what I came up with....
When mixing your finish, take a small strand of the madera thread youre using and toss it in the mixing cup and mix it with your epoxy until you've got it mixed, Then throw the thread out or leave it in the mix and apply to your work. It seems to extract just enough silicon residue off the thread scrap to mix in with the epoxy and eliminate those problem areas. Give it a try, it really works. I still use a coat of CP, but only 1 coat and its been working very well.

1 more thing, if you do this, it will be necisary to do it in the next coat as well or the next coat will have issues

Very clever Bill.
I'll definitely be trying that on my next weave.
I always use multiple coats of CP, but of course each coat changes the colours slightly (especially black) so this could be great.

very interesting Bill.

I'm doing a second coat tonight on Madeira. Can't hurt to give it a try I guess.

Interesting. Thanks for the tip...I wonder how many people will try this on a rod instead of testing first.

That a way, Billy. You always remember the important stuff....Like trying it on something that does not matter first. I alwasy hear about a good idea and then
try it on something that does matter. So far, I have been able to get away with it but one day.....

Just to clarify, I havent tried this method on wraps without a coat of CP (yet) this is just a little added insurance for some of the little nagging fisheyes that occasionally pop up no matter how many coats of CP you've used

Bill i just tried it on a rod. I have to admit not only did it eliminate any fish eyes I had no air bubbles to deal with either. The finish came out perfect. Thanks
