Hey all, been about five years since I last made a rod. Planning on an ultralight 5' rod, medium action.
So far I'm leaning towards a Rainshadow RX7, but I'm tempted to try an MHX. Anybody tried these? Ive heard somewhere the MHX compares to a G Loomis IMX (but I seriously doubt it)! Any comments on the RX7 vs MHX? Comparable blanks for under $50? Re: Ultralight MHX or Rainshadow?

I just built up one of the Batson Forecast RX6 SP600. Great rod! Casts very nicely and has enough power to set the hook at the end of a good cast. I have also used the Am Tackle Matrix 5' UL, also a nice blank, but physically heavier. The MHX series are pretty nice; I am building one of the blend models currently for a light inshore saltwater rod. Re: Ultralight MHX or Rainshadow?

The Batson blanks are great. I think, however, you would be pleasantly surprised by the MHX. It is a first rate blank. I have built several rods on blanks in the MHX line. They have become my "go to" blank for lots of different applications. Frankly, I don't think you can go wrong with either one. Re: Ultralight MHX or Rainshadow?

I've built a few on the MHX line and really like them. A heck of a lineup and GREAT PRICE. Working on a 7' 2pc light right now Mike (Southgate, MI) If I don't want to, I don't have to and nobody can make me (except my wife) cuz I'm RETIRED!! Re: Ultralight MHX or Rainshadow?

I haven't built on the is600. But I have a 720 and absolutely love it. As far as the MHX I have that blank also and it is awesome too. Funny thing is I also have a factory built loomis IMX 6010. Ill take my mhx over it anyday. Perhaps not a.fair comparison as my mhx was built with micro guides and the difference in the hand is unbelievable. I guess my point is don't count out the mhx compared to the imx based on price. As far as deciding between the 720 and the 6010 either way you will have a fun rod Re: Ultralight MHX or Rainshadow?

I haven't decided on the blank yet, but I will probably be buying most if not all of the other components from Schneiders (which means probably mostly Batson). Re: Ultralight MHX or Rainshadow?

Batson makes great stuff, and I've said before they have great service. But I'm really curious just how good the MHX is. Re: Ultralight MHX or Rainshadow?

But I'm really curious just how good the MHX is I have put MHX rods I have built up against comparable G. Loomis rods that I also built. I can't say which I like more. What I CAN say for certain is they both perform at a very high level. The big difference is the price. What this translates into is more profit for the builder. Why would you charge $100 less for a rod built on an MHX blank when the performance level is so high? Re: Ultralight MHX or Rainshadow?
