Am I the only one with this problem? I have only been doing this for a few months and all I find myself doing is looking through the galleries and reading posts. All I think about is what to do next how can I do it better what can I do different what should I have done. Ever since I started this madness Ill never look at a fishing rod the same way as I did before I started building. What have I gotten myself into. If anyone else feel this way let me know I wanna make sure I don't have rod ocd and don't need to be put on medication. Re: rod building rehab,

Steve,
There is an easy cure. Just build 5000 rods in the next 30 days and you will be well on your way to better times. Roger Re: rod building rehab,

Steve, I've been like that since I started building in 2000. I get fried every now and then, but for the most part I still have the same passion and fire I had when I started wrapping. I'm glad I can share that passion with others, and find a group of guys who are just as passionate as I. IF you're going to get addicted and obsessed abotu something, at least let that something be something positive. FIshing rods, flies, golf, photography - doesnt' matter. Re: rod building rehab,

As long as you dont start putting deadlines on projects it will remain therapeutic . The first time you have to have a rod done by a certain time it may drive you to drink. I do not build rods to order. If you are getting a rod from me it is a gift and you dont know you are getting it or when you are getting it. There are some days I will stare at a rod and have a serious mental block, the mood has to be right. Unfortunately my best ideas hit while I am at work and my mind is wondering. I have emailed myself plenty of ideas from work. Nothing worse than getting home from work with a ton of ambition and visitors stop by and derail the whole thing. Steve,
Good drugs, good alcohol and good sleep can simmer the fires. To put them out requires a short vacation at the mental hospital for a non-reversible operation to the frontal lobe. No need to go to that extreme if you don't mind the company of us. THEN AGAIN ????? Welcome to the madhouse. Eugene Moore Re: rod building rehab,

All good advice here. I have to learn to stop building under deadlines, which I am working on. I fell asleep at the rod bench a few months ago, trying tio meet deadline.

Tony, Problem with that is we have a content blocker and a certain sites are not available. Seems like all they want us to do is work when we are there. That is a good idea though. Freddwhy (Rapt-Ryte) Re: rod building rehab,

I am not addicted. I've been building for 35 years and I can quit any time.
I suggest that you make sure you don't schedule your builds so tightly that you are unable to find time to fish. That would be tragic...like breaking into houses and selling the loot so you can afford to buy titanium guides. I have found that not only is the building addiction incurable, it is also highly contagious. (Just ask my 16 year old apprentice.) Take two yellowfin tuna and call me in the morning.
