If color preserver is applied to NCP (No Color Preserver) thread, as when using the NCP as an under wrap with regular thread for the guide wrap, will the preserver cause any adverse effect to the NCP color? If so, would the best practice be to apply a finish coat to the NCP prior to using the color preserver on the regular thread? Any guidence will be most appreciated. I am new to rod building and this forum. Bill Re: Color Preserver Applied to NCP Thread

CP can and usually does darken the NCP thread a bit. The only way to know with any degree of certainty,is to test it on some scrap blank or where the handle is to be placed. If the look on the spool is exactly the color you want, then yes, apply your finish first. The downnside is finish can darken it as well. Again,I suggest you do a test wrap on scrap blank, etc. If you can live with the color, then you are good to go. Wrap your guides with regular nylon, apply the CP,let dry,and then coat the wraps.
