Heard from a builder on a fishing forum that Gudebroad was going out of business. Anyone know if this is true? And if it is what other threads would you recommend since everyone will be eatting up the Gudebroad stock that dealers have left. I build saltwater rods only, spinning and trolling.
Thanks Re: Gudebroad???

Rumor...
Seems that another supplier has been making offers to buy Gudebrod that Gudebrod isn't considering. Low and behold, the rumor starts at the same time that Gudebrod's out of, or is going out of business. Coincidence? I doubt it. Gudebrod has been very slow to ship product in recent months which has fueled the idea that they're on the way out. According to the company, they are in the process of upgrading and modernizing some equipment and they hope to be able to get back up to speed shortly. Keep in mind that rod winding threads account for only a very small portion of their overall business.

Not to be arguementative but I just spoke with them last Friday about some items I had just ordered. Stories of their closing are just rumors - if you call them tomorrow when they open ask to speak with either Sue or Paul. Karen Bingham Enterprises Re: Gudebroad???

I will. I spoke with Fred at Versitex and he confirmed it, but I will check for myself. You're good Karen, I didn't take it the wrong way. Actually, I hope I am 100% wrong.

Such a shame if they are going out of buisness , I've known Gudebrod for a long long time , I used to shovel snow for them (the original Gudebrods , at their home in Pottstown Pa.) . I've also known people who worked for them.I sure hope the "rumor" is not true.

Don't know if it's true or not but I know that this seems to come up fairly regularly. I DO know that they make a wide ronge of products for various industries and rodbuilding thread is only a part of their business [gudebrod.com] Mike (Southgate, MI) If I don't want to, I don't have to and nobody can make me (except my wife) cuz I'm RETIRED!! I just called Gudebroad. According to them, they are not going out of business, they have not filed for Chapter 11, and they have heard all of these rumors. They also said that they do not see any of these things taking place in the future. They have had trouble with shipments, but this will clear up shortly. Re: Gudebroad???

That sure is good news. Though I use all brands of thread, losing Gudebrod would have been a big loss. I too tried making contact with them via email but havent heard back today yet. Re: Gudebroad???
