I am looking for alternatives to the St. Croix blanks. Love St. Croix, just want to give the angler another option. 6'6" to 7'0" long, 3 pc spin blank rated for medium power. Please advise brand and model if you know.

A while back there was a thread about the dearth of travel blanks for spinning rods. This was attributed to the perception (no doubt backed up by market research) that fly fishermen are more likely to travel by air to fishing destinations. This was because, the reasoning went, fly fishermen tend to be more affluent than other types of fishermen.
I'm not going to go off on a rant here...I just wanted to thank the good folks at Batson and St. Croix for offering 3 pc. spinning and casting blanks we can go to for our "affluent" and traveling spin and casting clients (and ourselves as well). I sometimes long for the era in which it was easy to insert a ferule into a tubular fiberglass blank. (No, I don't miss the lack of performance). Making a multi-piece rod for clients was a snap. And there were quite a few clients who wanted multi-piece rods. If I could offer one suggestion to the blank manufacturers who frequent this board, it would be: expand the offerings. I have four different clients who are traveling (by air) to fishing destinations this month. One is already booked AGAIN for a November trip to Belize. They fly fish (I have built a few TCXs in 9' 8 & 9 wt) but spend about as much time with their spinning outfits as with a fly rod in hand. I have a strong suspicion that the internet (with Youtube fishing videos) and cable and satellite television broadcasts of fishing programs (one channel is fishing 24/7) have given the fishing public a peek at the fishing opportunities that are only a discount airline flight away. And I suspect that a lot of those viewers fish with spinning and casting equipment. Re: need 3 pc travel spin rod blank

You are right on Gary. This "affluent " traveling angler that I am making this rod for is 13 years old and goes on Boy Scout trips and needs a packable rod. Combined with a hard case for the rod which he mounted on the handle bars of his bike this angler will be using this 3 pc.er A LOT. the more blank choices the better.
