I've been doing a lot of composite grips lately which led me to researching the polyurethane foam I've been using. Thought this article was interresting. Make any lighter density foam you want...
Just add water! Cool. Steve [blastzone.com] Re: Adjustable density foam / composite grips

Not sure if I would ever want to go lighter than 6 pound density but nice to know if I did. Do you know if this process holds true with any urethane foam product or just that specific one? I guess I could ask the manufacturer of the product I use. MIght be the best place to ask. Re: Adjustable density foam / composite grips

I have not tried it yet. It's only good if you have a heavier density foam than you need. You can go lighter, but not heavier. Not with this method anyway.
I have an uncle that is a chemist at a very large plastic company and he confirmed that water would be the primary "blowing agent" in the two part urethane foams like this. It's already there, you can just add more if you want. I'm willing to risk wasting a couple ounces of foam next time I pour cores to see if it works. I'll post the results unless someone beats me to it. BTW, I was researching because a local marine parts warehouse had 8 lb foam on clearance at one time. I guess I should have got it.
