I know that for the most part, we want our epoxy as clear as possible. I need to turn a small amount of epoxy flat black. Do any of you have an idea as to how to do this? Re: coloring epoxy

I don't know how you can make it "flat." I have used various powdered tints to color epoxy, but it always stays glossy.
An added thought.............................after coloring and applying, you could sand it lightly with a fine grit and remove the shine. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 04/17/2010 08:06PM by Phil Erickson. Re: coloring epoxy

Paint over it with flat black Testors model paint.

No way I know of. The make up of epoxy makes it shiny no matter what you put in it, but...........there is a flattening agent sold by paint shops that might, just might, do what you want. But I have no idea what the proper additive ratio might be. Check with an automotive paint store. Re: coloring epoxy

Mike, the terms you use "clear" vs. "flat" make me think that you are wanting to make your epoxy opaque (not clear) rather than not shiny.
If this is the case you can add testors paint solids (pour off the solvent) to color the epoxy before applying. If you do want it "flat", I would use DR's suggestion. Walt Natzke Ripon, CA Re: coloring epoxy

Check on what Peter talks about. Auto paint Suppliers will have it. Not sure how much it will cost ?? The ones that sell Auto Body supplies. Bill - willierods.com Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
