So Alex was right.... I've become obsessed lol.

After some more playing around, or i should say, alot of playing around, i found combination of guides that gave me the best average distance.

The spacing is pretty close to what I used for the same size all on top test but I replaced the butt guide with a BLNAG 6 and the next guide with a BLAG 5. The average cast was 123.6 ft.

Now maybe someoe can help me understand why this is. My logic would say that the higher the frame of the guide the closer to the reel it should be, but the testing doesnt show this.

Now im just stumped as to why its working out that way.

BTW the spacing puts the butt guide almost 30" from the center of the spool

I can suggest an antidote for obsessions with fishing equipment. Spend more time fishing. The more time I spend on the water the less I am concerned with most details about tackle, but the more I am concerned with the habits of fish, the strength of knots, and the sharpness of hooks.

maybe the casting one side or the other could have been wind effect. It's been pretty windy around here today

Having the butt guide too close for the ring size opening can result in the line overshooting the guide, resulting in some small loss of distance. But you don't want the first guide so far away that under load the line moves onto or below the foregrip or rod blank between the reel and butt guide.

Here's something else to try - back up to your previous best guide set up and just about 3 inches past your butt guide, put another guide, just one size smaller than the butt guide. Do not alter the spacing of your regular 2nd guide. Just add in this "line tamer" guide" 3 inches past the butt guide and cast it a bit.

.................
