Yesterday I had a request for a blank that had a clear top like the ugly stick but without the solid glass. The customer likes the being able to see the tip but doesn't like the weight. Looking for a 6.5' to 7.5' med action 8 to 12 lb. line. for fresh water wipers. Have any of you seen anything like this or know where I might be able to get one. I haven't..............thats why I'm asking y'all. Thanks in advance. It only costs pennies more to be first class Re: ugly stick like blank?

I'm not aware of any blanks with a "clear top" but I would think that painting the upper 6 inches of a graphite blank a bright color would give him a more visable tip, and a lighter more sensitive rod than his ugly stiks.

At a show in SOmerset NJ 2 weeks ago, thee was a Korean company that had Kevlar blanks for a few line classes. They were the ugliest thing oyu ever wanted to se, had 1 layer of Kevlar wrapped over glass, and thblanks were over $200, finished rods over $700. Tip was solid clear glass, it was the biggest waste of money I've seen so far, lol.
How can he see the tip if it's invisible? lol. Re: ugly stick like blank?

I tried to sell him on the painted top 12"........he said it would look like ......well he wasn't too impressed with the idea. Anyhow is there something like clear or opague fiberglass out there? I could make up a two piece with a clear or opague top section if I could find it.
Billy, thet korean rod sounds bad, hope to never see one in my shop! It only costs pennies more to be first class Re: ugly stick like blank?

Funny how many people care more about how the rod looks than how it performs. Re: ugly stick like blank?

Steve, the Batson Tough Sticks have a clear tip section, but they will be heavier than a graphite blank. Re: ugly stick like blank?

I don't think they have the clear blue tips on the tough sticks anymore. It could be that it's painted and you could easily remove the paint from the tip. There is a slight line where the glass meets the graphite so getting the paint off of the tip should be fairly easy. Tough Sticks are rated a bit heavier than you want as well with 12-20 on a 7" blank. Great blanks by the way. Re: ugly stick like blank?

Just try to remember.... the customer is always right no matter how dumb, ugly or crazy it seems. I don't try to understand everything, but I do try to please my clientelle to a point.....then they get to find another shmuck to do their bidding.
Thanks for the Batson idea, I will give them a try. It only costs pennies more to be first class Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
