I am sure others might have a specific blank in mind, but I would look into a fly rod blank.

I have used 5wt fly blanks for your application.

Ron,
Another excellent choice is the use of a steel head rod.
If you are using your rod for dipping and flipping the extra backbone of a steel head rod works very very well. But the steel head rod still has the nice light tip for the paper mouth bites.

Take care
Roger

I agree with Roger. I build a lot of Crappie rods and the best blanks I have found are Steel head blanks when you want longer rods for fishing minnows in brush and stake beds. If you are casting Jigs to Crappie then I would use a 1 or 0 power Popping blank in 7 ' length. Got the Popping blank suggestion Tom K , tried it , and wouldn't use anything but a Popping blank.
