In a rush. I am making this rod for myself so the budget is low....less than $100 for the blank if at all possible and I prefer to keep it to rods available from mudhole. I want to make a stream trout spinning rod from a fly blank that will comfortably toss the weights my St. Croix SCIII 7 foot ultralight rated for 2-6 pound line does. Only, I'd like a fly rod handling, fighting action, etc. as there are places that the fly wand as it is just doesn't work as well as the spinning rod, but the fly rod fights these little stream trout so much better for my personal taste. What weight fly rod will toss the same lure weights comfortably as my UL? Thanks to all in advance! Re: help?!?

I cast the same weights with my 2 weight spinning rod as I do with my ultra light. I made my 6'6" matrix 7'6" and I absolutely love it. I have even landed a 9 pound cat fish on one. The tip is flexible but there is pretty good back bone. Very fun rod for trout and bluegill and crappie.
