Removing grip from mandrel

I got a set of mandrels from Andy Dear and they are awesome. I've started using Rod Bond for gluing the cork rings and it seems no matter how much I wax the mandrel, it's a chore to get the dang thing off. Any suggestions? Thanks

It shouldn't take much wax, just a few wipes, up and down all the way around.

After your grip has been turned, lock one end of the mandrel in a vise (wrap some masking tape around it to protect it from your vise jaws) and then grab the grip and qive it a quick twist. It should "pop" loose with no trouble at all. Then just slide it off the mandrel.

I've always been able to spin a grip off from waxed all thread with my electric drill, while holding the grip in my hand, with little effort, I wax my all thread with a light coating of Johnsons paste wax. I now have Andy's mandrels and am looking forward to using them as they should be superior to all thread. If your problem continues contact Andy but a twist should break the grip loose easily.

David
I learned many years ago when I spoiled a very expensive aerospace mold, that some waxes can actually act as a primer for epoxy adhesives, especially a high wetting adhesive such as rodbond. If the wax you are using contains carnauba you must polish the waxed surface before subjecting it to the adhesive. Apply a coat of wax, let it dry, polish it to a shine, repeat the process several times and you will have a good release agent. A better release agent for epoxies is the silicones, and waxes contain silicones are ideal but they must be polished to be effective.
