Cushioned NPS reel seats

I have a cushioned NPS reel seat that I had taped my threads to well doing diamond work on the rod, when I peeled the tape off it took off the finish from the reel seat. Any idea's how I can remove the rest of the finish? Or can I marble over the reel seat with the type of finish they have over them.
Thanks.

Vern,

I am just guessing without knowing what you are particularly having a problem with, I am assuming it is with the finish on the reel seat hoods. If that is the case you can use a dremel tool to polish the reel seat hoods using one of the scotch brite attachments ( I don't recall the exact name for it). I have used it to remove the Tich finish to give a nice silver finish to the hoods.

Best of luck,
Jeff Leonard

This is cushioned "rubber" reel seat with the metal flake black fisnish. I believe its graphite under the finish, its shiny black under the finish.

Not gonna help you, but why are you taping on the reel seat anyway? Should't matter since the rubberized finish shouldn't come off that easily, but there's no reason to do a wrap and tape the reel seat or teh foregrip.

I was trying to get the diamond wrap as close as possible to the reel seat. And your right there is now reason for the rubberized finish to come off. Never had it happen before. Iam getting some of it off with alchohol but you really have to scrub it hard to get it off, but yet tape takes it off in chunks. Pretty darn frustrating. Will acetone melt the reel seat?? Iam afraid to try it as I dont want to mess up anymore of the finish below the ruberized part and just have it turn out glossy black which is what is under the rubber part.

I've got no clue. FOrtuantely the rubberized seats I used held up OK, one is beat to death on a friend's rod, finish wore off but dind't come off like that.

NExt itme tape on teh tip side and wrap back towards teh butt. THEr eis no reason to wrap off teh foregrip or seat, I'm going to start telling people that is the wrong way to do things because of all the problems people have.
